What is the difference between 9K and 18K gold?
Jewellery can be made from gold of varying degrees of purity. While 9k and 18k are the most popular, you will also find pieces made from 10k and 14k gold.
The difference between 9k, 10k, 14k and 18k is the precious metal content - the amount of pure gold they contain. At Verse, we only use 18k solid gold, which contains 75% pure gold along with 12.5% silver and 12.5% copper.
To give you a comparison, 9k gold only contains 37.5% pure gold and 15% silver and 47.5% copper. The significantly higher proportion of pure gold in 18k gold is what gives it a richer and more intense colour than 9k gold.
18k gold is more durable and longer lasting. It’s these two reasons that using a precious alloy is our preference. Our pieces are created to become future heirlooms.
